Aviation officials: EgyptAir plane carrying 66 has crashed

CAIRO (AP) — An EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo with 66 passengers and crew on board crashed in the Mediterranean Sea early Thursday morning, Egyptian aviation officials said.

EgyptAir Flight 804 was lost from radar at 2:45 a.m. local time when it was flying at 37,000 feet, the airline said. It said the Airbus A320 had vanished 10 miles (16 kilometers) after it entered Egyptian airspace, around 280km (175 miles) off the country's coastline north of the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria.

Woman Kills Her Father For Alleged Witchcraft (photo)

                              

THE Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Glory Dan, 31, over the murder of her 75-year-old father, Mr. Bassey Udo.

The murder was said to have been reported to the police by the village head of Mbiakpan Atan, Chief Linus Okon, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, said on Tuesday that the crime was initially reported at ‘D’ Division Itam on May 10 and was subsequently transferred to SCID, Uyo on May 16 for investigation.

Prince’s best friend could be key in death investigation

A central figure in the Prince death investigation is the superstar’s longtime friend and right-hand man, who had a cameo in the movie “Purple Rain.”

According to a search warrant, detectives interviewed Kirk A. Johnson — a former Prince drummer and current manager of the singer’s Paisley Park estate — following the performer’s unexpected death last month.

The court document, obtained by the Los Angeles Times, discloses that police seized Prince Rogers Nelson’s medical records from a Minneapolis-area hospital in early May. Investigators were particularly interested in files involving a family-medicine doctor who had treated Prince in the weeks before the singer was found dead April 21 in a Paisley Park elevator.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Tuesday he is willing to talk to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to try to stop Pyongyang's nuclear program, proposing a major shift in U.S. policy toward the isolated nation.

In a wide-ranging interview with Reuters, Trump also called for a renegotiation of the Paris climate accord, said he disapproved of Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions in eastern Ukraine, and said he would seek to dismantle most of the U.S. Dodd-Frank financial regulations if he is elected president.

A 28-year-old man, Adamu Mai Bisco, on Monday night allegedly killed his parents and two sisters in Potiskum, Yobe State. Police confirmed the incident.

Spokesman Toyin Gbadegesin said the suspect used a shovel to kill the victims while they were asleep.
“He was not provoked before carrying out the dastardly act.” The police attributed the suspect’s action to hard drugs.

Gbadegesin said: “Bisco acted under the influence of hard drugs.” A source, however, alleged that the suspect killed his parents and siblings because they (parents) threatened to report him to security agents for allegedly being a member of the Boko Haram.

Cape Town (AFP) - A brutal fistfight broke out in the South African parliament Tuesday as security guards ejected opposition lawmakers in an ugly fracas that underlined heightened political tensions over Jacob Zuma's presidency.

About 20 members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, who were wrestled from their seats by plain-clothed guards, had refused to let Zuma speak and furiously shouted down the Speaker, Baleka Mbete.

As Zuma looked on impassively, the radical leftist lawmakers -- dressed in their uniform of red workers' overalls -- fought to try to remain in the chamber until they were physically removed through a side door.

Ronke Shonde Autopsy Report: "She Did Not Die From Marks Of Violence"

             

A preliminary autopsy report on late Ronke Shonde has said the victim was not killed by the marks of violence on her. PUNCH Metro learnt that the result, which was still sketchy, showed that the cause of the death might be more complex than earlier thought.

Our correspondent had reported how Lekan, 51, allegedly beat his wife, Ronke, to death at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of the state last Thursday.

Lekan, a dock worker in the Apapa area, who spoke with our correspondent while in hiding, had denied complicity in the death, saying he only slapped her that night.

TUC,Factional NLC Suspend Strike While Main NLC Continue Strike -

                           

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress on Tuesday walked out of the meeting held with the representatives of the Federal Government, vowing to go ahead with its scheduled nationwide strike on Wednesday (today).

Representatives of the Trade Union Congress, who also attended the meeting, however, said the TUC would not join the strike.

NLC President, Aliyu Wabba, led the labour delegation while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, led the Federal Government delegation at the talks held in the SGF’s office in Abuja on Tuesday night.

There were indications on Tuesday evening that militants operating in the Niger Delta may have again blown up a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) at Ogbembiri in Southern Ijaw local government area, Bayelsa State.

It would be more than a dozen times that the oil and gas facilities belonging to the Italian Oil giant would be breached this year alone.

You don’t need to be a golf fan to feel terrible for Brian Buckner, the Director of Agronomy at the Golf Club of Houston, which hosts the PGA Tour’s Shell Houston Open. It started on New Year’s Eve, when Buckner’s crew got to work only to discover that a group of vandals had ruined the course’s 16th green. The markings on the green appear to be from a car doing donuts.

A Child Kidnapper Caught At Owode Ajegunle Lagos

                        

Like the popular saying goes everyday for the thief one day for the owner, a child kidnapper was caught today at Owode Ajegunle Ikorodu road area. For the past few months over five children was reported missing,  the same area the child reportedly missing in a previous post


But the kidnapper met her dead end today as she was trying to escape with two children she abducted in front of a primary school. A woman who saw her identified one of the children she was carrying, she suspected a foul play and immediately called the child's mother, the mother of the child replied immediately that she has been searching for the child.

A 20-year-old Adamu Mai-bisco has killed his father, mother, and two sisters in cold blood at Batayya ward in Potiskum town, Yobe state.

Daily Trust gathered that the incident happened last night around 11:35pm before a distress call to the police led to arrest of the suspect.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin confirmed that the suspect used a shovel to kill four of the family members and he was under investigation.

A 54 year old man is currently on the run for attacking his wife with acid, resulting in her death. Agya Kwaku alias ‘schoolboy’ poured acid on his wife,Maame Abena Safoah, 45, at their matrimonial home at Atwima Mim near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region,Ghana.

Safoah suffered serious burns on her entire body due to the quantity of acid poured on her. The corrosive liquid also burned her mattress and floor carpet. The couple had quarreled that day over their inability to have children in the 20 year old relationship.

Navy vows to deal with militancy in Niger Delta

The Central Naval Command (CNC) of the Nigerian Navy on Thursday reiterated its resolve to deal with the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta region.

Rear Admiral Mohammed Garba, Flag Officer Commanding, CNC, said on assumption of command in Yenagoa that the navy had acquired the capacity to flush out recent resurgence of pockets of militant activities.

Garba said that the CNC, under his leadership, would pursue a zero tolerance stance against oil theft, pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering in line with the strategic directive of the Chief of Naval Staff.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a ‘doctor’, identified only as Abiodun, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 26-year-old ulcer patient in the Ipaja Ayobo area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Abiodun, a trado-medical doctor, who had his health centre – Damola Healthcare – on Agbaje Street, was arrested on Tuesday by the Isokoko Police Division.

The Family Support Unit of the division was said to be in charge of the matter.
Our correspondent gathered that the victim, Funmilayo (pseudonym), who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, and lives two streets away from the centre, had in December 2015, gone to the place to complain about ulcer.

Women Protest Unclad In Nkwegu, Ebonyi

There was pandemonium at Nkwegu community near Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi state as over 200 women from Afikpo South Council area of Ebonyi state protested Unclad over the alleged continued detention of the President General of the community, Ndubuisi Ekumankama. He was detained by the police for allegedly demolishing a widow’s house in Amangwu Edda community.

The women, who had planned to storm the Government House in protest were intercepted by policemen at the Nkwegu, near military cantonment when they resisted the first team of policemen who could not withstand the sight of the rampaging Unclad women.

Court Awards $1Million To Ricky Jackson For Spending 40 Years In Jail Wrongly

                         


An African American man who spent nearly 40 years behind bars in the US state of Ohio for a murder he did not commit will receive $1 million from the state for his wrongful imprisonment.
On Thursday, an Ohio Court of Claims judge ordered that just more than $1 million be paid to Ricky Jackson.

Jackson said he learnt about the payment from a reporter who had called him on Thursday afternoon to get his reaction over the court order. “Wow, I didn’t know that,” Jackson said. “Wow wow wow, that’s fantastic, man. I don’t even know what to say. This is going to mean so much.”
Michele Berry, his attorney from the Innocence Project, said a financial advisor will help Jackson to handle the money in the wisest way.

Nigerian officials penchant for looting surely knows no bounds as some officials have been caught red-handed stealing $3.8million aid meant to assist the country in battling the scourge of AIDS, Tuberculosis and malaria.

The stolen money was donated to Nigeria by Global Fund. It was stolen between 2010 and 2014, part of the locust years of the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Although Nigeria has agreed to refund the money, Global Fund has applied sanctions on the country, announcing it is suspending aid to Nigeria’s AIDS agency.

The Fund said it has evidence that the money was stolen by workers and consultants of Nigeria’s National Agency for the Control of AIDs(NACA), Spokesman Seth Faison said Friday that Nigeria’s government has promised to repay the money to the Geneva-based agency and to prosecute suspects.

Shell Companies in Nigeria have restated their long-term commitment to the Niger Delta, saying they would continue operations in the oil-rich region despite the spate of militant attacks in recent days.

Shell has also denied evacuating its personnel from the region, saying that it was monitoring the security situation in the region very closely.

A militant group, which has identified itself as Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), had attacked Chevron’s facilities in the Escravos area of Delta State last Wednesday and Thursday.
The twin attacks affected the Escravos-Warri pipeline, which feeds the Warri and Kaduna refineries, cutting off crude feedstock to the two facilities.
