The residents of the area are yet to come to terms with what happened -as the spate of incessant killings in the region keeps rising.

Alagba, a giant male land tortoise believed to be 330 years is still alive at the palace of Ogbomoso King in Oyo State.The legendary tortoise who lumbers about in the palace is popularly called “the elderly one”.

Nigerian Air Force, Innoson, Sign Agreement On Parts Procurement

              

              

The agreement is aimed at ensuring adequate maintenance of the Air Force’s air fleet.
It was announced by Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, who led a delegation of top senior officers of the Nigerian Air Force on a visit to Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia.
Air Vice Marshal Gbum said the present administration had heightened efforts to improve research and development and that an order by the Chief of Air Staff had brought about the discovery of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company.

Three children went to pluck cashew from a bush opposite Ajyaita Village in Kakau District of Chikun LGA of Kaduna State on Tuesday, but ran into a very unlikely sight-a corpse, which was later identified as that of the abducted military officer. Ajyaita village is about 10 kilometres from Kaduna city centre, and lies along the Eastern By-pass which links the Abuja-Kaduna express way to the southern part of the state.

Evicted Tenant Dies At Calabar Bus Stop (photo)

                        


An unidentified man suspected to be 60 years old has been found dead at St. Patrick College bus stop by Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, Cross River State.

It was learnt that the man, who was said to have been forcefully evicted from his rented apartment by his landlord, died on Sunday after staying at the bus stop for four days.

He had before his death, according to an eyewitness, survived on the goodwill of people who assisted him at the bus stop.

NDLEA Intercepts Letter With Heroin In Lagos (Photo)

                            

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday said it had intercepted a letter laden with heroin in Lagos. Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, the agency’s spokesman, said the letter was sent from Bangalore, India, via Express Mail Service (EMS). It was addressed to one Mr Yunusa Amusan, 33, in Mushin, Lagos.

“Upon interception by the NDLEA, about 480 grammes of powdery substance that tested positive for heroin, was found inside the letter. “The thin parcels of heroin were carefully hidden in the letter in a manner that makes it difficult to detect.

“This is the first case of heroin letter discovered by the anti-narcotic agency this year,’’ he said.
Chairman of the agency, Mr Muhammad Abdallah, said that the arrest was recorded following the diversification of the agency’s operations.

Syrian troops drive IS out of historic Palmyra

                        

Syrian government forces backed by Russian airstrikes drove Islamic State fighters from Palmyra on Sunday, ending the group's 10-month reign of terror over a town whose famed 2,000-year-old ruins once drew tens of thousands of visitors each year.

Government forces had been on the offensive for nearly three weeks to try to retake the central town, known among Syrians as the "Bride of the Desert," which fell to the extremists last May. Their advance marks the latest in a series of setbacks for IS, which has come under mounting pressure on several fronts in Iraq and Syria in recent months.

U.S. Indiana Mother Missing Since 1974 Found Alive and Well in Texas

                       

An Indiana mother of three who vanished without a trace in 1974 has been found alive in Texas.
Lula Ann Gillespie-Miller was 28 when she signed away her parental rights to her three children, including a newborn, over to her parents.

A letter her parents received was postmarked from Richmond, Indiana in 1975 and was the last time they heard from Gillespie-Miller.

Gillespie-Miller thought she was too young for motherhood, she reportedly told her parents. For the next four decades, she was a missing person in the state of Indiana.

NAF Jet Crashes At Yola Airport

                        

A military fighter jet involved in the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East on Wednesday night crashed at the Yola International Airport. Two pilots involved in the accident have been taken to an Air force military hospital for medical treatment.

One of our correspondents gathered that the crash was as a result of a burst tyre which occurred around 8pm on Wednesday when the fighter jet returning from a military operation tried to land at the runway of the Yola International Airport.

The world of soccer lost a big one on Thursday. Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, a figure who changed and influenced the game in many ways, passed away at the age of 68.

Cruyff, from Amsterdam, played for big clubs such as Ajax and Barcelona, while also playing in the United States in the former NASL with the Los Angeles Aztecs, the Washington Diplomats and even some exhibition games with the New York Cosmos. He won the Ballon d'Or three times and is widely considered to be the best European soccer player that ever lived.

U.S. Boy shaken as a baby dies after 12 years on life support

                           

                           


A 12-year-old boy who was shaken as a baby and remained in a vegetative state for the rest of his life has died, authorities said Wednesday.

Aiden Stein died Sunday at a Columbus hospital. The case drew national attention when his parents waged a successful legal fight to prevent a court-appointed guardian from having him removed from life support. Three doctors had testified that Aiden would never recover.

FG Launches Single Register On Poor, Vulnerable

The Federal Government on Thursday launched a community-based single register of the poor and vulnerable aimed at reducing extreme poverty in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo launched the register at the end of a three-day Social Protection Cross-Learning Conference in Abuja.

Osinbajo was represented at the conference by Mrs Maryam Uwais, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment. The Vice President said that about 120 million Nigerians, representing 60 per cent of the population, lived on less than two dollars per day.

A 39-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Monica Momodu, has been arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting her housemaid with a hot pressing iron.

The victim, Sara Egbadon, a Junior Secondary School 2 pupil, was brought from Supenu-Irua, Edo State, and had been living with the woman for five years on Abiodun Adesida Street, Oke Afa, Lagos.

PUNCH Metro was told that the 13-year-old girl was ironing Momodu’s children’s clothes on Sunday when she started dosing.

Tragedy struck on Thursday in Onifufu/Aderupagba Compound, in the Oke-Ijeun area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, after a dilapidated mud building collapsed, killing a pregnant woman and her daughter.

The woman, who was  said to be three-month pregnant, was identified as Kafayat Somoye.
She was reportedly taking her children, Ganiyat and Ganiyu, to school when the wall of the building collapsed on them as they were passing by.
