Nigeria’s
Obafemi Martins got his goal No. 7 for Seattle Sounders since joining
the MLS outfit this year. It was another victory for the
trophy-searching club who have recorded their fifth consecutive victory.
The 28-year-old headed in a Mauro Rosales free-kick in the eighth minute, to open the scoring for the Sounders.
Eddie Johnson added a second in the 22nd
minute, and a stoppage time penalty from Brad Evans helped secure a
club record 10th straight home win for the Sounders.
Martins has so far scored seven goals in
11 starts (and three substitute appearances) for Seattle Sounders in
the MLS this season.
“Having good players is always a good
problem to have,” Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. “Adding a player like
Clint is going to be very important to our team, and our team tonight
went out and showed that we can play.”
Dallas remained winless in its past nine
matches, having not won since beating San Jose on May 25. Dallas has
scored just six goals during its skid and was shut out for the fifth
straight match.
Dallas’ last goal came against
Philadelphia on June 29 in a 2-2 draw. The best scoring chance Dallas
had was in the 69th minute when Mauro Diaz was open just inside the top
of the penalty area, but pulled his shot wide of the net.
