Beacham married actor John McEnery in 1973 and they had two daughters, Phoebe and Chloe, before divorcing six years later. It is thought the rape happened prior to her marriage, when she was aged between 23 and 25.
Her career has taken her from the Hollywood glitz of The Colbys and Dynasty to the cobbles of Coronation Street by way of Celebrity Big Brother - and the actress has exuded glamour throughout.
Her most recent television stint was in BBC sitcom Boomers, in which she played the part of Maureen alongside Russ Abbot, June Whitfield and Alison Steadman.
After a succession of toyboy romances, in 2014, Beacham revealed she was planning marry her fiancé Bernie Greenwood, a doctor she was introduced to online by a mutual friend.
Born in Barnet, Hertfordshire, to a housewife mother and an insurance executive father, Beacham was diagnosed as deaf in one ear at an early age, and previously claimed she had been bullied at school.
However a stint of modelling opened the door to an acting career - allowing her to work with the likes of Marlon Brando, Michael Winner and of course, Joan Collins.
