Tributes to those killed September 11, 2001 began at 8:46 a.m. Wednesday, the hour at which a hijacked plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. President Obama, Vice President Biden and their wives all observed a moment of silence at the White House in honor of the dead. Across the country, Americans joined in the remembrance and commemorated the 12th anniversary of the attacks that left 2,977 people dead.
