Grandmother whose family were accused of abducting her from hospital to care for her at home dies aged 107

A 107-year-old woman who was caught up in a bitter dispute over her care has died.
Minetta Webb’s family were accused of abducting her from a hospital because they wanted to provide 24-hour care for her at home.
Hospital chiefs at Manchester Royal Infirmary used controversial powers to try to detain Mrs Webb – thought to have been the second-oldest woman in Britain – claiming they wanted to ‘safeguard’ her interests.

Great-great-grandmother Minetta Webb was caught up in a bitter dispute over her care has died

Staff called police to her home in Manchester late at night.
Her family claim they were treated like ‘criminals’ and say officers threatened to arrest them for refusing to hand over Mrs Webb.
They accused social services of failing to provide an adequate care package for the great great grandmother.  Mrs Webb, who had eight children, 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, including Leeds United captain Lee Peltier, and ten great-great-grandchildren, died on Friday. Her family were too upset to comment but her case re-ignited debate over how best to care for the elderly.
Kelly Poulson, one of Mrs Webb’s carers, condemned social services, saying she had never come across such ‘appalling’ treatment of a vulnerable person.
