Lagos Accident Claims Five Lives

  

Five persons reportedly died in an inferno that engulfed three trucks and a Honda car at Alhaji Ede Bus Stop along Isheri-Igando Road near General Hospital, in Lagos, Monday night, at about 10p.m.One of the trucks. The driver of the Honda car, with number plate BDG638BP, identified as Adebayo Ahmed, is among the five persons that lost their lives, while two others, identified as Eferhobo Lucky, aged 57, and Ogbodo Sunday, 29, were injured.


The two survivors, who were initially rushed to Igando General Hospital, have been transferred to Gbagada General Hospital.Vanguard learned that the fire started when the truck, with number plate EPE 896 XK, reportedly carrying an inflammable substance, hit a stationary truck parked by the roadside.An explosion resulted in the fire.It was gathered that the other two trucks, owned by a beer distribution company, were parked along the roadside when the accident occurred.Policemen from Igando Division, led by CSP Ben Osuji, were at the scene yesterday.

Eyewitness accountAccording to an eyewitness, Mr. Shola Kopoloye, a car dealer, “the entire thing happened at about 10 in the night. The smaller truck that caused this whole incident was coming from Igando.“From what we heard, the truck was involved in an earlier accident. It was in the process of escaping that it ran into one of the trucks parked by the roadside. Immediately he hit the truck from behind, there was explosion and he lost control.“While trying to manoeuvre, he ended up here. Everywhere was in flames. The electric poles, shops and transformer at the other side of the road were all affected.”
