A pastor was arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly buried a 2-year-old girl alive inside his church’s courtyard, police in Nigeria said.
Lagos Police said that they shut down the Christ Gospel Apostolic Church located on Destiny Avenue, where the two-year-old girl was buried alive.
Police officers stormed the church and exhumed the victim's body for an autopsy and arrested the pastor identified as Dare Ogunloye. A local monarch urged the government to permanently shut down the church if the allegations turn out to be true.
Police said that the pastor was caught when a local resident near the church had gone for a walk at 2:00 a.m., and saw the pastor burying the child in a shallow grave. The neighbor, whose identity was not revealed, alerted other residents, who reported the incident to the police.
The police dug up the shallow grave where they discovered and exhumed the body of the girl. The pastor will be brought before the Lagos Magistrate's Court for a bail hearing, while charges are still pending.
