I’m 100 Percent Responsible For Chelsea’s Poor Form – Diego Costa

I’m 100 Percent Responsible For Chelsea’s Poor Form – Diego Costa 1 hour ago 178 Viewed Segun Bankole 0 respond Tweet Diego Costa has defended Jose Mourinho over Chelsea’s shambolic title defence and admitted the players’ complacency is to blame – starting with his own. The Spain striker, 27, revealed he returned for pre-season this summer overweight.

He also conceded that he and his team-mates believed the Blues could repeat their easy title win from last season. Costa, who scored 20 Premier League goals for the London club last year after signing from Atletico Madrid, said: “I got injured at the end of the season and then I went on holiday. “Maybe I got out of my diet and when I came back I was not the way I was supposed to be. I was a little bit overweight. “That affected my game.

Misfiring: Costa has scored just one Premier League goal so far this season “You can be selfish and blame it on the manager but I’m not going to do that. I’m responsible 100 percent and so are the other guys.” Costa was pictured partying Ibiza after the players were given a two-day break following Chelsea’s opening-day draw with Swansea. He has netted only one League goal this season in eight games so far and scored in the Blues’ Champions League win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Chelsea, who have eight Premier League points, face Aston Villa at home in a must-win clash after the international break. Mourinho has already conceded the title is beyond them and no team has ever made it into the top four with the Blues’ points haul at this stage. Mourinho has been accused of losing the Stamford Bridge dressing room. But Costa added: “We need to blame the players because we came back from holiday very confident.

“We thought we could go back into the way that it was last season. “Then, by the time we actually realised the situation we were in, the team was already in a bad position. All we can do now is train very hard, work very hard and try to get back to where we were last season. “If you ask a million players who they want as their manager, they will all come back with a top three list of Mourinho, Guardiola and Diego ‘Cholo’ Simeone. “It was one of the reasons I joined Chelsea. You know when you have a manager that is always successful, is always in the title race and always playing in the Champions League. He is competing at the top level, he is going to help you develop and become a better player. And help you win titles in your career.”
