AMAECHI FIGHTS BACK,ACCUSES WIKE,PANEL OF WITCH-HUNTING

Former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has dared the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, to prosecute him if he has evidence of corruption against him as he claimed before the Justice George Omereji-led Judicial Commission of Inquiry that investigated the sale of valued assets of the state and other matters uncovered.

The challenge came as commissioners who served under Amaechi declared that allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds levelled against the former governor were infantile, stressing that the past administration was not only prudent but also transparent. Amaechi, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by his media office, said the outcome of the Omereji-led commission was “expected”.

The statement titled: ‘Enough of The Theatrics, Go to Court’ and signed by his media aide, David Iyofor, said, “The panel lived up to expectations as a shambolic inquisition panel that was set up to indict Amaechi.”

Dismissing the recommendations of the commission, the statement said, “Crudely, without any sense of finesse or attempt to disguise its mission to ‘hack down Amaechi’, the Omereji panel did the bidding of its paymaster. As we earlier warned, it turned out to be a comedy, a circus show to grab media headlines with bogus, phantom and fabricated claims of corrupt practices against former governor Amaechi and officials of his administration. It achieved nothing beyond political excitements, entertainment and theatrics.”

It accused the commission of bias, stating that it was bent on indicting Amaechi from its inception.
“Indeed, the Wike panel was an inquisition against Amaechi. Wike should go to court if he has any case of alleged corrupt activities against Amaechi. His panel is not and can never be a law court,” he said.
Meanwhile, members of the state executive council under Amaechi have described as infantile for the present administration to accuse the former governor of corruption and to ask him to return funds spent by his administration.

Addressing a press conference at Port Harcourt on Saturday, former Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, on behalf of former commissioners, said it was irresponsible for the present administration to ask Amaechi to refund N33 billion spent on the monorail project.
