Angry mob burn man accused of stabbing neighbour to death

An angry mob at Ungwan-Rukuba New Road, around the Nasarawo area of Jos, on Wednesday, burnt a 25-year-old man, Mantau Rati Black, for allegedly stabbing one Sati Samola to death. An eyewitness told NAN on Thursday that Black was lynched in revenge for the deadly stab he inflicted on Samola. The eyewitness told NAN that Black went after Samola and stabbed him, in anger over his intervention in a fight between Black and his (Black’s) younger sister.

The eyewitness said that Samola was first rushed to a private hospital which refused to treat him, before he was taken to the Plateau Specialist Hospital, where he later died. Angered by the development, youths of the area were said to have gone after the suspected killer (Black) and wrestled him from policemen and some soldiers who intervened and wanted him to be prosecuted.

The eyewitness said that the youths quickly put a used tyre round the neck of the suspect, set it ablaze and waited till he was burnt to death before they dispersed to bury the stabbed Samola. According to the source, the youths claimed that the suspect was fond of “misbehaving” and might be freed to unleash even worse havoc on the society.

“They, therefore, insisted on `removing’ him from their midst,” the source told NAN. Contacted, Mr Emmanuel Abuh, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Command, confirmed knowledge of the incident. “I went there (where it happened), yesterday, but could not see the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of the area. “We shall soon get more facts on the matter and get back to you,” he told NAN.
