Pastor Ademola Popoola has described lack of respect for God, loss of family values and personal integrity as the major bane to Nigeria’s rapid development. He also blamed religious leaders for encouraging corruption, considering their reluctance to preach the truth and reprimand those caught in the web of illicit acts.

Pastor Popoola who is the first Vice Chairman of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches is also of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, English Section, in Ilorin. He made the assertions while featuring on a Radio Kwara interactive programme, ‘the platform’ monitored from Ilorin.


He therefore advised public office holders to lead with sincerity of purpose, while religious leaders must wake up to their responsibility of correcting the ills in the society.

The cleric also emphasised the importance of making public offices less attractive to allow people of integrity and those who are committed to the service of the masses come on board.

Pastor Popoola nevertheless expressed concern about the endemic nature of corruption in the country and urged the present administration not to be partisan or selective in its crusade against corrupt individuals.

The guest who is the Dean of Studies, Orimolade Theological Institute, an Affiliate of ABU Zaria however advised the government to be more discreet in its approach to probing, but let its results justify the efforts being put to bring sanity into the system.

He therefore advised Nigerians to continue to support the government with more prayers in its arduous task of rebuilding the country.Government at all levels were also reminded of the need to pay premium attention to the overhaul of the country’s education sector.

He specifically called for special attention to upgrading public schools, reviving the Teacher’s College and improve the welfare of teachers to serve as motivation to discharge their duties effectively.

Pastor Ademola who was speaking against the background of the failure rate of students in recent times, added that the rot in education sector must be addressed from the cradle for the needed result to be gotten.

He also blamed lack to implementation of the policies available in the sector and laxity on the part of the tutor to the decadence in the sector and called for urgent steps to contain the trend.


The cleric likewise appealed to authorities concerned to encourage sporting activities in schools to ensure mental and physical alertness.
