Suspected Boko Haram insurgents early Tuesday killed at least 9 people and kidnapped dozens, including children and teenagers, from a village in Cameroon on the border with Nigeria, according to local leader.
Tchakarmari village, Chief Kadzamare Amin, said heavily armed attackers came from Nigeria into the villages of Tchakarmari and Kangaleri early Tuesday on trucks, adding that they burned 15 houses, killed six men and three women, and kidnapped many.
Midjiyawa Bakary, governor of Cameroon’s Far North region, said soldiers confirmed an attack and authorities are investigating. While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, the Boko Haram sect has been blamed for scores of attacks in the region this year.
