The season of supporters embarking on trekking to register their solidarity with the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), seems not to be over yet.
A man identified as Abdullahi Afolabi Nadabagi monday morning took off from Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to embark on a journey to Lagos, on foot.
He disclosed that his mission is to meet with the former governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to express his appreciation for Tinubu's support for Buhari to emerge winner at the presidential election.
According to The News, Abdullahi, a fashion designer and father of two children who is from Niger State, commenced the journey yesterday from the popular OPIC Roundabout, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta at exactly 6:43am, and asked for prayers from Nigerians.
He said he embarked on the journey to show appreciation to Tinubu, without whose support, according to him, Buhari would not have emerged as the president-elect.
“When I saw everybody going to Abuja to praise Buhari for his victory, I thought we need to honour the magic man behind the success. You and I know that General Muhammadu Buhari had contested for three times before this last one and with the singular efforts of this great Nigerian and undoubtedly, Yoruba leader, Buhari won convincingly at the fourth trial.
“Tinubu contributed immensely to the victory of Buhari and other candidates of the APC. Before the elections, many people had prophesied that the country will disintegrate during the poll, but Nigerians shamed all the prophets of doom and we had smooth and successful elections.
“Jagaban Borgu remains an engineer of revolution and a master strategist, who used his political sagacity and experience to give us total revolution in Nigeria without bloodshed.
“This man must be appreciated and praised. He stood like rock of Gibraltar behind Buhari, and upon all odds, humiliation, harassment ,intimidation, hate statements, lies and other things, he remained undaunted and ensured that APC won. So, when young Nigerians from Abuja, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kaduna and other parts of the country are trekking down to Abuja to greet the president elect, I decided to go and greet the man behind the success, Bola Ahmed Tinubu," he stated.
The son of the former chief of Nupe in Ogun State said the journey would take him four days as he decided to stop over at any location by 6:00pm daily to have a 12-hour rest before continuing the following day by 6:00am.
Taking the old Lagos-Abeokuta road to Lagos through Wasinmi, Itori, Ifo, Sango Ota and link Lagos through Alakuko-Alagbado axis, Abdullahi said he had met with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of his area in Abeokuta for security permit, which the police boss obliged him.
He also confirmed that he is fit and okay for the journey and also said his medical doctor has certified him okay for the trip.
“Even if Tinubu is based in Abuja, I am strong and okay to trek down. I have contacted my doctor and he has certified me okay for the journey. I am just fortunate because if he is based in Kaduna, Bauchi or Abuja, I will trek down there right from this spot in Abeokuta to thank him for giving us hope for a good Nigeria," Abdullahi said.
He attended ANLG Primary School, Sabo, Abeokuta, now Bashorun MKO Abiola Primary School, and later proceeded to Saint Peters High School for his secondary education, which he completed at Olumo High School, Abeokuta.
Abdullahi later studied at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Ojere, Abeokuta for his National Diploma in Business Administration. He could not complete the programme due to financial constraints.
