Kaduna State governor-elect and former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mallam Nasir el-Rufa’i, yesterday disclosed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors-elect particularly those of the northern extraction have resolved to prioritize the revival of the textile industries.
This is just as he further reiterated that politicians or individuals at all levels, who have in one way or the order soiled their hands with public money should be ready to make refund as soon as the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government takes over power on May 29, 2015. El-Rufa’i stated this when he received executive members of the National Union of Textile Garments and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) at his Kaduna home.
The former minister decried what he described as the “shameful” state of the textile industry in the state, pledging that his government will reverse the trend.
According to him, the textile industries in Kaduna used to employ a total of about 33,000 workers and lamented that the current figure of 1,600 employees was unacceptable.
He said that the APC government would revive the textile industries more so as the move will generate employment and impact on the lives of the people.
He said, “We have met at forum of northern governors-elect and we decided to ensure the revival of the textile industries. “It is a shame that the largest economy in Africa imports textile materials from Senegal and other countries.
“We as APC northern governors elect have met and agreed to prioritize revival of the textile industries and nine years free education. “We will replicate what China is doing in the textile area in Nigeria.
