At least 37 tourists have died after a coach plunged 100ft off a flyover and down a ravine in southern Italy.
Rescuers pulled 11 people alive from the twisted wreckage, including four children - some with serious injuries.
The coach was reportedly taking about 50 people back to Naples following a pilgrimage when the crash happened.
Sky Italia has quoted eyewitnesses suggesting that a tyre may have blown sending the bus smashing into a concrete barrier.
As
it careered across the road the coach hit other cars - injuring their
occupants - before plummeting over the edge.
The
driver of the bus is believed to be among the dead and leading fireman
Pellegrino Iandolo told Italian television: "The situation is critical.
"Our men are working to save as many lives as possible."
Pictures
taken from the scene in Monteforte Irpino in the Campania region show
the mangled bus and scores of bodies covered by white sheets.
Photographer
aid Cesare Abbate of Italy’s ANSA news agency said: "Looking down from
the overpass, the scene of the tragedy: some 30 bodies covered by white
sheets, lined up along the roadside."
