FG Will Punish Banks, Importers Caught Round-tripping – Buhari

                       


President Muhammadu Buhari has said that banks, importers and individuals involved in round-tripping of dollars they buy from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) official market and resell in the parallel market will be made to face the law when caught.

The president gave the warning in an interview monitored on Al Jazeera television at the weekend.

Forex round-tripping or arbitrage refers to a process whereby funds obtained from the official forex market (at lower rates) and diverted to other markets and sold at a higher rate by forex dealer, banks and end users.

A South African pastor, Apostle Thamsanqa Sambulo, claimed he performed a miracle and an apostle of God after he allegedly poured boiling water on himself and members of his church.

Lagos Assembly Orders Relocation Of Mile 12 And Owode Markets

                         

Smarting from the last week’s crisis in the Mile 12 market area of Lagos, the State House of Assembly yesterday told the state government to begin arrangements for the relocation of the popular foodstuff market. 
The market, which is due to be moved to Parafa, in Ikorodu, according to the House, has overstayed its welcome in the area and should no longer be tolerated in the heart of the city.

EFCC Arraigns Bolaji Quadri For One Thousand US Dollars Fraud

                                 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today March 7, arraigned one Bolaji Quadri (aka Philip Coffert) before honorable Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Lagos State High Court on a 6-count charge of forgery and obtaining money under false pretence.

The defendant allegedly duped one Raedeena Collins of the sum of $1000 by falsely claiming to be on Phillips Coffert. At the point of his arrest, several fraudulent documents were found in his possession including forged cashier’s cheque from international banks in both United States and United Kingdom.

Swiss Govt Holds Talks With Nigeria On Repatriation Of Fresh $321m Abacha Loot

                         

Representatives of the Swiss government are expected in Nigeria on Tuesday to discuss with their Nigerian counterparts the repatriation of another tranche of huge public funds stolen by late Head of State, Sani Abacha. 

The delegation will be led by the Swiss Minister for Foreign Affairs, Didier Burkhalter, who is expected to meet with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, over the repatriation of the $321million confiscated from the family of late former head of state, Sani Abacha.

UNIPORT Lecturers Opt-out Of Rivers Re-run Election Over Wike’s Warning -

                        

Some lecturers of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) who were listed to serve as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the March 19 State and National Assembly re-run elections in Rivers State have opted out of the exercise over an alleged threat by the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.

INEC had shortlisted about 300 lecturers from UNIPORT to serve in the election as ad hoc staff.
The lecturers, who met with the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Ndowa Lale, on Monday, said their decision to stay away from the exercise was as a result of the statement credited to the governor that those who planned to rig the re-run elections should be ready for the consequences.

Rivers APC Alleges Wike Wants To Bribe Ogonis For Votes With Blood Money

                        


The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress [APC] said its attention has been drawn to the announcement by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government [SSG], Chief Kenneth Kobani that the Rivers State Government will pay compensation to some families in Ogoni over the recent crisis in the area.

The APC in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Chief Davies I. Ikanya JP said while the APC is not averse to government providing assistance to citizens especially during crisis, however, we believe that the offer by the Rivers State Government is in bad faith. We are convinced that the government simply wants to bribe and induce the people to vote for PDP candidates in the forthcoming rerun elections under the guise of providing compensation to affected families.

Justice Okon Abang, of the federal high court, Abuja, however, remanded him in prison pending the determination of his application for bail.
