Police IG Orders Removal Of Local Government Officials From Highways

                             

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase NPM, fdc has mandated all State Command Commissioners of Police to dislodge local government officials operating on the highways in the guise of collecting tolls for their local government authorities.

Man Arrested For Peeping At Neighbour’s Wife In Bathroom

                        
                       

A 36-year-old man, Oludare Adewale, has been arrested and charged before Oshodi Magistrates’ court for allegedly peeping at his neigbour’s wife, Victoria Emmanuel, in their bathroom in Lagos State western Nigeria. The court ordered him to be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos.

The incident happened at 23, Arowojobe Street, Oshodi where both the defendant and victim reside.
The woman had gone to take her bath in one of their bathrooms in the morning and Adewale followed her and entered the other bathroom under the guise of taking his bath as well. The police alleged that Adewale peeped at Victoria through an opening in the bathroom as she was bathing early in the morning.

      Saraki assures on quick attention to ministerial nominees, bills

Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has assured that there would be no delay in the confirmation of ministerial nominees once the list is sent to the legislature by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also assured that bills from the execu­tive arm of government would be treated with dis­patch, as part of efforts to support the President to effect positive change ex­pected from his adminis­tration by Nigerians.

Saraki gave this pledge yesterday in Abuja when he received the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Denys Gaver, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Police detectives in Lagos have arrested a man for allegedly bathing his former lover with acid after she jilted him. Although nobody was sure that the person who bathed the victim, Rosemary Nanaifa, with acid was her former lover, but the lady said she was sure. According to Nanaifa, 23, her former lover, Paul Nwokobia, whom she dated for five years, had repeatedly threatened her since she dumped him. She said she never knew he would go to the extent of bathing her with acid.

Speaking from her hospital bed at the Female Surgery, Ward B, University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos, Nanaifa, a caterer, said the incident happened on June 3, around 8pm. The matter was reported at Itire Police Division. She said: “I was at work one day when a private number called me around 4pm.

Hoodlums attack APC witnesses at Ekiti Tribunal

The Ekiti State High Court complex in Ado- Ekiti, the state capital, was in chaos yesterday as suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hoodlums beat up witnesses, who testified before the Election Petitions Tribunal.

The three-man panel was hearing a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate in Ekiti Central, Gbenga Olofin, who is challenging the return of Senator Fatimat Rasaki of the PDP.

Five gunmen in army uniform have kidnapped Mrs. Martha Binabo, the wife of former Bayelsa State Acting Governor Nestor Binabo. She was snatched on Monday at her warehouse, located between Azikoro Village and Agbura.

Binabo, a former House of Assembly  Speaker, was inaugurated acting governor in 2011, following a court judgment that sacked the Timipre Sylva administration. The bandits were said to have stormed Mrs. Binabo’s warehouse at 11:30am.

He is a renal failure (Chronic Kidney Disease CKD) patient at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, who needs N7 million for a kidney transplant, though he presently undergoes dialysis thrice a week at the MTN Renal Clinic of the hospital.

Okonjo-Iweala Replies Oshiomhole, Buhari's Government

                             

Immediate past Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy & Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday described as “false and malicious,” the allegation by Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, that she spent $2.1 billion from the Excess Crude Account, ECA, without authorization.

Speaking through her Media Adviser, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu, in Abuja, the ex-minister said that there was no unauthorized expenditure from the ECA under her watch in the Finance Ministry.
According to her, decisions on withdrawals from the ECA were discussed at monthly meetings of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, attended by Finance Commissioners from the 36 states.

Buhari Appoints Woman As Replacement for Jega; Meet Her

                         

Prof. Attahiru Jega on Tuesday bowed out of office as the Chairman of INEC. Consequently, the president, Muhammadu Buhari, has appointed Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari, as acting chairman of the body.

Mrs. Zakari, the first female to occupy the position albeit in an acting capacity, was until Tuesday, a National Electoral Commissioner at INEC.

Customs Men Left Me To Die As Smugglers Battered Me In Their Premises- Journalist



                   



“We will kill you today. When we kill you, other journalists will leave this place alone.” Four suspected smugglers yelled as they pummeled a journalist, Yomi Olomofe. Not done, the hoodlums, after about 10 minutes of battering, took their victim to a refuse dump nearby, pummelled him some more, and left him for dead.

Olomofe was reportedly battered by the suspected smugglers on the premises of the Nigerian Customs Service office in Seme, Badagry, Lagos State. He was attacked at about 4pm last Thursday, June 25. Olomofe had been invited to the NCS premises for an assignment. He explained that the suspected smugglers beat him up on the claim that he wrote against their activities in the Seme area.
