The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Adeniji Adele, Lagos, has arrested a pastor, Peter Iyasele(Middle), and two others for allegedly hijacking a truck with N25m worth of goods in the Ijora area of Lagos.

Punch learnt that while the two other suspects ─ Anthony Ibiade and Amas Debar ─ were arrested in Ijora, the 56-year-old clergy was arrested in Igando, Lagos.Our correspondent gathered from the police that the hijacked truck, which contained 25 heavy duty outdoor airconditioners, belonging to a company based in Apapa, Lagos.According to the police, the market value of the heavy duty air conditioners is about N25m.

ABUJA—There were indications, weekend, that the Army High Command has ordered the arrest and detention of a Brigadier-General attached to the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army (names with-held) over allegations of negligence that gave Boko Haram terrorists an opportunity to overrun some communities in Borno State recently.

Vanguard gathered that the senior officer who hails from one of the states in the South West, was the officer coordinating the military onslaught to dislodge several Boko Haram terrorists from Bama, Gwoza, Madagali, Michika and other communities in Borno and Adamawa states that later fell into the hands of the terrorists.

Journalism has lost one of its jewels, with the death in Britain of  former presidential aide Mrs Oluremi Oyo. She was 61.

The immediate past Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) passed on Wednesday while receiving treatment for cancer-related ailment.

Oyo was the media adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo between 2003 and 2007.

Her death was announced in a statement by her husband, Mr. Vincent Oyo yesterday.

It reads: “With gratitude to God for a life well spent, I regret to announce the death of my dear wife, Dame Felicia Oluwaremilekun Oyo. She died peacefully on Wednesday (October 1, 2014) in the United Kingdom where she was receiving treatment for a cancer-related ailment.

“Dame Oyo was a seasoned journalist who began her journalism career in 1973 in the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation now known as the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

“She joined the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as a Desk Editor in 1981, and left in 1985 as Editor, the first woman to attain such a high position in the Agency.

He's Still Alive? Boko Haram's Abubakar Shekau appears in new video, rubbishes death claims...

  

Last week, the Nigerian Army claimed the Boko Haram leader's impersonator was killed. Cameroon even claimed they were the ones who killed him,a claim subsequently debunked by the Nigerian Military.Photos and even a video was even released to buttress that fact .However, in yet another video made available to AFP today, Shekau was shown  making a speech debunking reports of his death.According to AFP, he said
“Here I am, alive. I will only die the day Allah takes my breath,” He also added that, that his group was “running our… Islamic caliphate” and administering sharia punishments."
Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by AFP on Thursday and said the militants had implemented strict Islamic law in captured towns.

BREAKING: First Case Of Ebola Diagnosed In the United States

   

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials have confirmed the first case of Ebola to be diagnosed in the United States.

Just this morning, Zachary Thompson, the director of the Dallas County Health and Human Services, had said that the Dallas County was ready for Ebola while talking about the patient who was admitted yesterday on suspicion of the virus.

"This is not Africa. We have a great infrastructure to deal with an outbreak."
Yesterday, news broke that an unidentified patient who had recently returned from the West Africa area was being isolated on suspicion of the deadly virus at a Dallas, Texas hospital.
