Drama as Northern delegates accuse Confab leadership of hidden agenda

  

There was mild drama at the ongoing National Conference on Monday when Northern delegates accused the confab leadership of habouring a hidden agenda.

Trouble started when Ishaq Modibo drew the attention of the Conference, under a matter of urgent national importance, to media reports which he said, questioned the integrity of the Conference leadership.

Mr. Modibo said two reports on Daily Trust newspaper indicted the Deputy Chairman, Bolaji Akinyemi, of lobbying Northern delegates in order to smuggle in a demand for a new Constitution in the Conference final report.

NFF Deny Reports Of Keshi's Resignation

The future of Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi remained a mystery on Tuesday after the Nigerian Football Federation denied reports he resigned following their World Cup exit.

Nigeria went out of the tournament in Brazil at the round of 16 stage after a 2-0 defeat to France, after which Keshi said: “It's time for me to go back to my family and face fresh challenges."

That was widely interpreted as a sign he had quit and it appeared to be confirmed when the Super Eagles’ official twitter account retweeted a story stating Keshi had indeed stood down.

Diego Maradona has slammed France midfielder Blaise Matuidi’s challenge on Nigeria’s Ogenyi Onazi worse than the bite Luiz Suarez unleashed on Giorgio Chiellini.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Matuidi was shown a yellow card for the late tackle during his side’s    2-0 over the Super Eagles, which left Onazi facing months on the sidelines with a fractured leg.

France will now meet Germany in the quarter-finals but Maradona believes Matuidi shouldn’t be there, insisting the tackle deserved a harsher punishment than the four-month ban handed to Suarez for his bite on Chiellini.

56 People Killed In Borno Market Bomb Blast

  

Fifty six people were killed in Maiduguri yesterday after a vehicle loaded with bombs exploded in front of the popular Maiduguri Monday market.
Majority of the dead are children and old women who eke out a living selling groundnut in front of the market which traders normally buy and give as alms to young Tsangaya school pupils.
Also killed were nine youth vigilantes and passengers waiting to board buses in front of a motor park  opposite the market, witnesses said.
Sadiq Abba Tijjani, the Secretary General of the civilian JTF in Borno, who spoke to journalists in the evening yesterday, said they have confirmed the death of 56 people.

How Nigerian Soldiers Killed A Redeemed Church Pastor

 
Many people were injured while a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God was shot dead by soldiers the in Opuraja community of Okpe Local Government Area in Delta State on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when the soldiers, led by a Captain, arrived in two Hilux vans to conduct investigation in the community; however, they were mobbed by the villagers, who misconstrued their motive. As a result shots were fired into the air to scare off the surging villagers.

The arms of the law have finally caught up with suspected ritualist pastor, Ernest Nwankwo as he has been arrested by the police in Lagos. Nwankwo, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry, a.k.a House of Mercy in the Ikorodu area of the state was alleged to have ordered a female member to kidnap a child.

The member, Rosemary Chukwu was caught trying to take away the kidnapped child and it was she who indicted Pastor Nwankwo. The 50-year-old suspect was arrested around the Ebute Metta area of the state and is currently being detained by the police. Vanguard reports:

The violence in the North-Eastern part of the country got elevated today in Borno as a bomb went off in the capital.

Official casualty figures have not been released as regards the incident which is said to have occurred at about 8:20 am.

Pres. Jonathan joins others in breaking the Ramadan fast (SEE PHOTOS)

       

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday broke the Ramadan fast with several other top government functionaries at the Aso Rock Villa.

Jonathan joined other Muslim faithfuls across the country in observing the Ramadan fast.

Also with the president are Vice President Namadi Sambo, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar and other top government functionaries.

The 28-year old woman allegedly not only called her ex-lover a formidable 77 639 times in a week, but also sent him 1937 emails, 41 229 text messages, 217 sung messages and 647 letters in the same period.

French ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy has been detained for questioning over alleged influence peddling.
Mr Sarkozy is being held at Nanterre, near Paris, in an unprecedented step against a former president.
Mr Sarkozy is being questioned about whether he sought inside information from a judge concerning an investigation into campaign funding.

The latest developments are seen as a blow to Mr Sarkozy's attempts to challenge for the presidency in 2017. Investigators are trying to find out whether Mr Sarkozy, 59, who was president from 2007 to 2012, had promised a prestigious role in Monaco to a high-ranking judge, Gilbert Azibert, in exchange for information about an investigation into alleged illegal campaign funding.

They are looking into claims that Mr Sarkozy was warned his phone was being bugged as part of the funding probe.
