Four charged over Westgate siege

                        

Four people have been charged over the siege at the Westgate shopping centre in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, in which at least 67 were killed, police say.The four foreigners have been charged with aiding terrorist groups and being in Kenya illegally. Their nationalities have not been disclosed, but they are said to be ethnic Somalis. These are the first charges to be brought in relation to the four-day September siege.

Morsi trial starts in tense Egypt

Egypt's ousted leader Mohammed Morsi has gone on trial in Cairo, telling the judge the case is illegitimate as he remains president.  He and 14 other Muslim Brotherhood figures face charges of inciting the killing of protesters outside the presidential palace in 2012.  After Mr Morsi's remarks and his refusal to wear a uniform, the judge adjourned the trial until 8 January.  He was then flown to Burj al-Arab prison in Alexandria, state TV said. Earlier reports had suggested that he would be taken to Tora prison on the outskirts of Cairo. Until now he had been held at a secret military location.

Six Naval Officers Beat Teacher to Stupor in Ogun (PICTURED)

                      

                        

A terrible accident happened at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Onikoko, Adigbe area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital in the early hours of October 30, 2013, Wednesday, when six naval rating officers pounced on one of the civilian teachers in the school and beat him to stupor over a minor argument between them. The victim, Rasheed Ibrahim (pictured), could have been killed by the naval officers without the quick intervention of the Commandant.

According to Punch, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission are at a crossroads over the investigation into the purchase of N255m bullet-proof cars for the embattled Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, SUNDAY PUNCH can authoritatively report. Oduah on Thursday had denied that the NCAA bought the two bulletproof cars for her use, adding that they were bought for the use of the guests of her ministry.

According to Punch, former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday said he would respond to the claims made by his erstwhile deputy, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on their political relationship, in his soon-to-be published book. Abubakar had, in an interview published in Hausa language by a newspaper, disclosed that he “blasted” Obasanjo over his bid to run for a second term and had argued vehemently with him on his (Obasanjo’s) bid to go for a third term.

Julius Adegun had on Saturday, September 21, 2013, boarded a commercial bus from Abule-Egba, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expresssway, around 10.30pm. He was heading to Iyana-Ipaja but had no idea he had boarded the bus with a three-man gang of robbers. The events that unfolded later were to confound him because it was one he had never heard of.

Former Vice-President of Nigeria,  Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has revealed that he “blasted” his then boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, over his bid to run for a  second term. Abubakar made the disclosure during an interview with a newspaper published in Hausa. In the interview published by an online publication on Friday, Abubakar also disclosed that he and Obasanjo argued over his failed third term bid. Atiku said during one of their arguments, Obasanjo gave him a Quran to swear loyalty to him.

Popular Afro-pop singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk on Thursday (today) celebrated his 27th birthday with a visit to Ikoyi Prisons. He was welcomed by the DCP Bamidele and the community after which he proceeded into the correctional facility where he spoke with the inmates. The singer, who also performed with some talented intimates, pledged to build a recording studio in the establishment for those who are musically inclined.
